How to store and travel with your wig
How you store a wig between wears matters almost as much as how you wash it. Here are simple, general habits that help human-hair units keep their shape.
At home
- Store it clean and completely dry.
- Keep it on a wig stand or mannequin head so the cap and lace keep their shape.
- Keep it out of direct sun and away from heat and humidity.
- Cover it loosely (a satin bag or hairnet) to keep dust off.
For longer storage
Brush it through, braid or loosely tie long hair to prevent tangles, and place it in a satin bag inside a box or the original packaging. Avoid folding the lace.
When travelling
- Pack it in a hairnet or satin bag, inside a small box or hard case so it isn’t crushed.
- Pack a wide-tooth comb, a scarf or bonnet, and travel-size shampoo and conditioner.
- Put it in your carry-on if you can.
